Founder of CLAIM YOUR WORTH®
It is awesome to meet you – we are so happy to have you join us here within the Claim Your Worth!® Community!
My mission with Claim Your Worth!® has always been inspired (and continues to be) by my own personal journey with self-worth and the fundamental impact your awareness of your innate worth - has on you living your best life.
To help you understand the concepts even better, the best way I know how to teach is through story. So, let me share mine with you. Before we jump in to that...let me give you some quick stats & cred on me so you know a little bit about my background...
So now that you know some background about my professional and personal life - let’s talk about my deeper journey with self worth - and perhaps as you read through my story – you will begin to see yourself having gone through similar experiences and understand why you may have held yourself back or stayed hidden and small.
One thing to know out of the gate is - self-worth almost always gets bundled in with self-esteem. But as you explore this site, I think you will realize too –that although similar – the two are very different and require different awareness, tools, and coaching.
Most of us have memories of when we were very young – where we experienced being playful, light-hearted and generally happy.
I distinctly remember the feeling–where I knew who I was - I knew what I knew - and I didn’t apologize for any of it.
I expressed myself confidently and courageously – without asking for permission.
My time was spent in nature making mud pies for the squirrels – and asking my imaginary friends to join me on adventures around the neighborhood.
My fondest and most powerful memories were when I was in the back-hall of my childhood home (which my parents allowed me to transform into a classroom) – and I would spend hours and hours teaching my stuffed animals anything and everything I could imagine and dream up.
But, then things began to change.
Looking back, it is easier to see the shift happened when I began to go outside my little cocoon into the “real world. This is where I began to be influenced by more and more external factors.
Whether it was a friend’s parent telling me how to dress – or a teacher asking me to pay attention to something I could care less about – all of a sudden, I was torn from my safe world that I KNEW – and was now being taught the message: Conform to these/our standards or else.
Or else what?
Well, in my very impressionable mind, I told myself that if I don’t conform to what others expect of me - my needs for safety and security – and love and belonging won’t get met! With no AMEX in my little Jordache purse (totally dating myself!), I needed a roof over my head, food in my belly – and of course, love from my family, peers, and authority figures.
And…since I saw these people and circumstances as my source for getting all my needs met - I needed to become who they found acceptable – which was a little girl who drew within the lines, didn’t talk back, followed their rules, and relied on them for knowledge and answers.
At a very early age, I decided to hide that core confidence and become someone different - someone less bold and more invisible – someone who didn’t stand in her power – but gave it away to others.
Over time I began to convince myself that I was less than - that my voice didn’t matter – and that others were more important than me. As a result of these (false) beliefs - that confident, courageous teacher had now put on a mask to save face from the world.
I hid behind that mask for many years but at the age of eighteen I faced a crossroads where I had enough. I decided it was time to prove to the world that I was good enough.
So, I set out to take-on all sorts of obstacles and achieve some significant things – in the hope that I’d find my significance through outward success.
I never realized as I worked my butt off through business school, and dug my heels deeper into the corporate ladder, that I was unconsciously chanting the mantra: If I do and achieve, then, I’ll be good enough…
Professionally, I was hell-bent and motivated on getting ahead. And I did. But even in my proudest moments of achievement, I was never fulfilled.
Then, gradually I began to “wake-up” and started to question everything about my work and my life. I was tired and burnt-out and dreamt of escaping and going to sell jewelry on some tropical island somewhere.
Every day was spent sitting in traffic - looking at others in their cars wondering if they were thinking the same thing I was: “There must be MORE to life than this.”
That inclination to want to jump out of my car and ask other people what they thought about the rat race - was my first clue of my true calling ;)
As I began to listen to that inner voice encouraging me to explore that MORE – I discovered that what I was naturally good at informally at work and in life (coaching and consulting others on how to unearth their deepest hearts desires and get clear on a BIG VISION for their life and work ) was something I could build a business around.
So, what does a high achieving corporate burnout – who could probably use a nice respite and break from it all -do? She gets her coaching certification, quits her job and starts a coaching business!
Fast forward 13 years. I’ve coached thousands of people in a variety of capacities…both within my own business and also within a corporate setting.
The greatest lesson learned thus far is - you can’t define yourself or source your worth by what you do. Your worth is defined simply for who you are – without the labels, accomplishments and accolades. Without having to earn anything to feel it.
This is such an incredible lesson to learn as you gain clarity on what you yearn to do NEXT with your work and in your life. Because if you found us here at Claim Your Worth!® you are undoubtedly an up-lifter destined to do and be MORE in service to others.
However, if you aren’t aware of the false beliefs that unconsciously run your life – you’ll continue the pattern of giving to others and you being put on the back burner – it will just manifest in a new environment or a new way.
In life this turns into burn-out, lack of self-care and never stopping to just BE and enjoy yourself and have fun!
In business/career - you charge or make a salary - far less than you are worth. You have a boss who is demanding and causes you stress – or clients who don’t value you or your time.
To Claim Your Worth!® means that you learn innately from the inside/out how to value yourself by creating a solid, foundational relationship with yourself.
You learn how to set boundaries not only with others but with yourself.
You begin to realize that your talents and gifts- even though they come easy and naturally to you – are worth far more than you’ve ever realized or charged for.
And you value relationships and your inner circle more than you ever have.
You create life experiences over accomplishments and put fun and recreation at the top of your priority list!
And...it’s our commitment at Claim Your Worth!® to help you rise to this new level of meaning in your life and work.
And if you’re ready to get a jumpstart on gaining even greater clarity on your BIG VISION and how to map-out a vision and plan to get there, learn more about our Creative Collaboration services.
